"Built to move like the real thing,"

MakerWorld user Auxcron's incredible 1:2.5 scale reconstruction of the Volkswagen 1.9 TDI engine is a sight to behold. Totalling some 300+ components requiring more than 50 hours of total printing time, the result is a fully animated monument to great fuel economy.

The files aren't publicly available – yet. Auxcron is preparing to launch the project as a crowdfunding campaign on MakerWorld, with the proceeds providing funds and time to improve the fit and finish of the parts, author the build guide and BOM, and generally give it the polish it deserves before releasing the files.

Hold onto your filament: The Smithsonian just dropped a Triceratops.

The famed museum recently posted an updated 3D scan of its complete Triceratops horridus, ready for makers who prefer fossil-grade accuracy over cartoon dinosaurs. Print it for the classroom, your desk, or an ill-advised full-scale hallway display — just bring plenty of filament. The scan is part of the Smithsonian’s effort to digitize more than 155 million artifacts and specimens available in OBJ format for free at Smithsonian 3D Digitization.

Weekend Poll
It's been a wild couple of weeks in 3D printing hardware.

Sovol's 1+6 IDEX-toolchanger scored fast Kickstarter success, while LightMake gears up its campaign for the linear-motor quad-printhead L4. Meanwhile, Bondtech hit a snag: its INDX "hardened" nozzles miss spec, dragging Prusa along too. With Creality's K3 landing in a few months, brands are racing to pitch different fixes for multicolor waste.

We know most of you want a toolchanger, but does the kind matter? The mix of approaches makes them tricky to classify – do we even need to, if the results look the same?
